InXile Entertainment heeft Wasteland 3 aangekondigd voor PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One en Playstation 4. De game is in ontwikkeling en wordt gefinancieerd via Fig, een crowdfunding platform gemaakt door game ontwikkelaars met als doel games. De campagne gaat live op 5 oktober.
Brian Fargo, oprichter vaninXile, sprak met Polygon over de campagne en wat innovaties die spelers kunnen verwachten in deel 3. “We’re going to have a f*cking blast with it. And it’s not just solving puzzles together. It’s about narrative multiplayer and what can happen when the two of us are in a world, independent of each other, doing other things on the map.”
Fargo schetse een scenario waar twee spelers, elk met een eigen team, het verhaal doorlopen en opslitsen om af en toe hun eigen ding te doen.
“Let’s say that you’re sleeping and I go on a mission where there’s a sickness among some cattle. I decide the resolve it by killing them all. You wake up and you’re notified that mission is complete. But when you get back to the game there’s a radio call. The town? They’re kind of pissed about that. They want money for those cattle. You can convince your friend to pay up, or you could pay it yourself. You could even refuse to pay entirely and live with the consequences.”
Wasteland 3’s campagne komt met een doel van $2.75 miljoen dollar. Fargo en zijn team zijn tot dat bedrag gekomen door te bekijken hoeveel ze vroegen voor deel 2 en dat ze hebben opgehaald toen in 2012, deze begon met een doel van $900.000 en haalde uit eindelijk $2.9 miljoen op.
