Star Trek Online knalt al sinds 2010 op de PC, met wat updates en uitbreidingen en zelfs een stap naar het free-to-play gebied heeft de game goed gedaan. Nu maakt de game zijn weg naar consoles aldus Arc Studios.
“Our first major task was to convert a PC game that takes nearly an entire keyboard to play into a game that plays well with a 12-button controller,” aldus Executive Producer Stephen Ricossa in een mededeling. “We focused on getting the controls right before we began work in earnest on this project, because we knew the game had to be as tactical, fun, and accessible as the PC game that preceded it. A combination of radial menus and streamlining of some HUD elements created a game that is easily understood, instantly accessible, and incredibly fun to play.”
De console versie zal beschikken over meer dynamische verlichting, een UI verbetering en een totaal herschreven back-end. “The goal here was to create a UI that was incredibly streamlined on the back-end to ensure the best game performance possible, while also creating a brand new experience purposely built for the controller,” aldus Ricossa. “We’re really proud of how this looks and how well it performs, and I’m excited for everyone to see it in action.”
Natuurlijk zijn de belichting upgrades ook onderweg voor de PC, maar er is niet gesproken over controller ondersteuning voor de mensen die graag spelen met een keyboard.
De PC versie heeft net een uitbreiding gekregen genaamd Agents of Yesterday gebaseerd op de originele series. De game heeft meer dan 130 afleveringen gelijk aan de TV, ook beschikt het over stemmen van de cast uit Voyager, Deep Space Nine en The Next Generation.
Er is nog geen andere datum gegeven behalve de herfst.
